The proceeds from this Wed-Rock CD support Freedom To Marry, the organization that brings together national and state, gay and non-gay groups working to win Marriage Equality across America. Freedom To Marry is headed by Evan Wolfson, named one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" by Time Magazine, and author of the book, Why Marriage Matters: America, Equality, And Gay People's Right To Marry. Freedom To Marry joins gay and non-gay organizations and their many approaches--through the courts, changing laws, public action, and education--into a larger whole, a shared civil rights movement that reaches out to non-gay allies.
When non-gay people talk about marriage, they mean love, clarity, security, respect, family, intimacy, dedication, self-sacrifice, and eqaulity--qualities that describe the relationships and lives of lesbian and gay couples just as well.
America is engaged in a conversation about the freedom to marry and same-sex couples. Each of us must now engage our families, neighbors, and fellow citizens in the personal and informational conversations they deserve, and explain why ending discrimination in marriage matters to couples, their kids, and our country.
As we advance toward full marriage equality, we promote gains along the way for all families, including same-sex couples and the children raised by gay parents. By working to secure equal access to civil marriage licenses from the government, we help reinforce our country's historic commitment to freedom of religion and the separation of church and state. By ending sex discrimination in marriage, much as we ended race discrimination in marriage a generation ago, we are building a better America, protecting and supporting families, children, and the freedom of choice for all.
