"Nick Nolan reinvents Pinocchio for the 21st Century in a telling that is ingenious, modern and utterly mesmerizing. Like Brokeback Mountain, Strings Attached transcends genre and is simply a great story." --New York Times bestselling author Kathleen McGowan, author of The Expected One BETRAYAL -- Was Jonathan's death really an accident? GREED -- Bill Mortson and Tiffany Tyler--bitter enemies with a shared passion WEALTH -- The exclusive and the elite of Ballena Beach LUST -- Jeremy has a secret BEAUTY -- Coby Carson and Ellie O'Neal--the couple with everything? LOVE -- Carlo Martinez and Reed Banks--in love, but not with each other TEMPTATION -- String Attached Seventeen year-old Jeremy Tyler is the puppet of Tiffany, his alcoholic mother. But when she is forced into rehab, Jeremy moves from the slums to the cliff-top estate of Katharine Tyler and Bill Mortson. Stunned by the wealth surrounding him, Jeremy thinks he's landed in paradise until the couple begins dictating his every move, and a late-night phone call identifies someone close as Jeremy's certain foe, and his father's murderer. And Jeremy tries to fit in with the elite of Ballena Beach High. He joins the swim team and dates exotic Reed Banks--the girl he hopes will obliterate his attraction to boys. But Coby Carson, a calculating swim champ who mimics the all American boy, has other plans for the besieged Jeremy, as does rebellious ranching scion Carlo Martinez. Pulled in so many directions, Jeremy seeks guidance from acid-tongued teen socialite Ellie O'Neal, and Arthur Blauefee, a mysteriously gifted man with an unforgettable tragedy in his own past--as well as a stunning, clandestine identity. But as Jeremy grows more comfortable with the veneer of a fabulous life, so grows his dissatisfaction--as well as the danger of immeasurable harm. Based on one of the most beloved fairy tales of all time, Strings Attached tells the story of one hopeless boy's struggle to become a real man.

Nick Nolan's first novel is a real page turner. Rich characters and an intriguing plot make "Strings Attached" a must read for anyone - gay or straight - who enjoys discovering a new writing talent. While many authors write coming of age stories, Nolan writes with a unique voice. I was reminded of "Catcher in the Rye" with a 21st Century sensibility played out in a colorful California "Dynasty" backdrop. I look forward to reading Nick Nolan's next book - which might even be a continuation of the story told in "Strings Attached."

As a frustrated writer and avid reader, I found Nick Nolan's first novel compelling and riveting, and full of insight about not only coming of age and coming out, but human nature, teenager and adult angst, and life in several lanes: fast, slow, gay, straight, young, old... Bravo, and let's hope for a movie of this unique and clever story, and a sequel to an extraordinary novel.

Wow! For me, I just don't seem to have time to read. When I do, it is very maddening to pick up a bad book. Strings Attached sure tied me up! I could not put this book down. Easy to read, fun and great story. The characters were real and colorful. I cannot beleive this was a first novel. I cannot wait until the next. Wow!

A great story and a great read. Nick Nolan took some very real life dramas (coming out, dealing with an alcholic parent, and the issues of being an adolescent becoming an adult) and wove it with rich fantasies (finding out you are rich, you have the world at your feet, the hottest people wanting you, and a murder plot) to give us a really engaging and beautifully written story.

This is a wonderful book, full of colorful yet believable characters, clever plot twists, and life-like adolescent angst that had me reliving my own struggle with becoming “a real man.”
Nolan’s novel moves at a quick pace and is a complete pleasure to read. The subtle thread of the Pinocchio tale that weaves through the story adds a fairytale aspect that easily engaged me. With each chapter, I felt more connected to story. The author has a talent for creating vivid characters speaking realistic dialogue. I felt that I knew the characters, and on occasion, was the character.
A great first effort, and hopefully, not the last.
